3 Nephi 13: 19-21 says:
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and thieves break through and steal;
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal;
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
As my birthday has come and gone
this week I have learned a lot more about treasures here and treasures in
Heaven. I received so many awesome gifts from so many amazing people,
both here and from home. It means the world to me that people are
thinking of me, and caring about me as I am out here. It is always so
exciting to walk into our apartments to a nice little package awaiting us at
our door. Then I get to open it and look at it and prepare myself for
whatever is inside. Really, it is quite exciting!
Everyone here really
made it a special week. It was another missionaries birthday this week
who I work really close with. So, we got to celebrate together.
One of the amazing members here invited us over for dinner and a cake. We
honestly felt like princesses. The next day, we had district meeting
together and celebrated her birthday again. I used my amazing
cake decorating skills. It was
really great. The next day, my companion sang to me and made me a great
breakfast. She also did my hair and my make-up which, as we all know, was
great for me. It was so good and so much fun. She really made it a
great day too. I opened my presents, and loved everyone of them. It
has been really fun to use everything, eat everything, and wear
everything. Later, we met up with the other Hermanas for cake. Then
we were on our way.
We arrived at one of our amazing
Hermana y hermonos home. We knocked and heard, "Just a minute, please."
We stood outside waiting for them. The second they opened the door,
they were singing and wishing me a happy birthday. It really was an amazing
surprise. One of the best presents I could have received. They had
decorated the walls, and gotten me a pie with a candle on top. They even
got me a little present.
I sure know that I have family
and friends at home that love me. I can feel their prayers, and I love
getting their letters. Receiving fun packages was great! As we all
know, I love candy and cakes and chocolate. It was certainly fun to get
all of that. I really appreciate everything that everyone has done for
me. I honestly know that I have people back home who love me and care
about me. That means the world to me, especially right now.
So, I loved my birthday and
everything that happened, but I learned something that day that I will never
forget. I got a present from two amazing people in my life that have
taught me more than I could have ever imagined. Inside the package was a
beautiful princess box of chocolates and a little angel snow globe, but the
thing that mattered the most to me was written on the card.
It was then that it really hit me - the important things
in life. That card means the world to me. I am so thankful for
all I have, but once we have left this life, what of that
is going to follow with us? Batteries die, and chocolate cake gets moldy.
The things that really matter in this life is the love behind the presents, and
being the people that help others lay up their stores in Heaven so that one day
we can all meet each other there. I love it here! Every trial
brings a new strength, and I am so thankful for this opportunity. I love
you all a ton, and hope that you have an amazing day.
Thank you so much for
everything. For the money, the gifts, the music, the scarf, the candy,
cake, and most importantly your support and love. I love you, my
family!!!!! Please give Galieth a hug for me.
Happy Birthday, Grandma Charmaine!!!
Love, Hermana Gamett
